The radically innovative design of this plan for the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce + Industry (ADCCI) incorporates and unifies the existing 21-story tower with a new 42-story tower, establishing visual perception and recognition as a singular architectural landmark. The exposed steel truss support framework spans across the gap between the tower's legs, completing the visual framing of the existing building.
Dramatic lighting and a refurbished exterior on the preexisting building reinforce the unified concept. A sky bridge spans the gap between the 20th floor of the old structure and the western leg of the new tower, providing a visual and operational link between the structures. Both buildings are oriented toward the Arabian Gulf to maximize waterfront views. The facade facing the tree-lined Corniche running along the gulf is curving curtain wall to respond to the curve of the Corniche, while the south facade is more solid, with punched windows reducing the solar heat gain. By spanning over the existing tower, large, highly efficient floor plates are achieved.
Private VIP elevator access is available through the narrow eastern leg of the new high-rise. Special features on the upper floors include a business club, relocated facilities for the Chamber of Commerce Board and President, rooftop helipad, penthouse "sky garden" greenhouse, and luxury residential complex.
The creativity and innovation of the Chamber of Commerce Tower design is reflective of the dramatic Abu Dhabi waterfront skyline. Although the concept never was realized, the concept was awarded 1st place design in the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry design Competition.
