The Next Generation of Designers

TEAM: The Next Generation of Designers

In these times of social distancing, adjusted work environments, and home learning, it’s no easy feat for young designers to find an opportunity to advance their education, skills, and experience. BCT Design Group has been fortunate to take on four interns working towards these exact goals.

SARAH FOLTZ

GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERN

“Currently, I am a rising senior at NC State University, majoring in Graphic Design and minoring in Business Administration. I grew up in Baltimore but I moved to attend NC State because of its beautiful campus and ranked College of Design.

“As a new intern at BCT, I hope to gain more real world experiences in my industry. Experiences, such as working with clients and professionals, are important skills that can’t just be gained in a classroom. While I am here, I hope to get some hands on practice, and I hope I am able to pick up new skills and insights along the way. Additionally, because the application of graphic design is so widespread, the career paths are endless.  At BCT, I would like to see and practice working in one of the many paths that I could potentially pursue in the future. Currently, I have no clear or definite end goal for my career in graphic design. I do enjoy print design and UX/UI design. However, I try to keep an open mind about what will open up or interest me in the future.”

RAIGAN HUTTER

SUMMER INTERN

“I am a rising senior at Towson High School. I am interested in possibly studying either architecture or design. This internship gives me the opportunity to explore these areas and see what interests me. I am learning a lot from being here and it’s a great experience being able to listen in on meetings, help work on some research for projects, and learn how to use new platforms like SketchUp.

I look forward to visiting and potentially applying to the following colleges later on this year: UT Austin, CU Boulder, UMD, VCU, Catholic, and Virginia Tech.”

Yusua Salomo

Architectural Designer

“My name is Yusua Salomo. I am an architect at PT. Arkonin (Indonesia). This internship has given me the opportunity to explore the U.S., make some friends and so much more. I am learning many valuable industry process and trends.

It’s a great experience being able to see how other firms manage their projects, how to prepare research for projects, and learn how to use some new software platforms such as Indesign, Enscape, etc. Also I can see how the work culture in here in the United States.

I loved being able to travel and see many great architectural sites. The next place that I plan to visit is Chicago and Seattle. I’ve enjoyed my western-culture experience, I hope the pandemic will end soon so I can continue to travel.”

Miranda ParAmita

Architectural Designer

“My name is Miranda Paramita Anggini and I am currently working as an Architect at PT Arkonin, an architecture firm located in Jakarta, Indonesia. I’ve been participating in the BCT Design Group’s Internship Program since October of last year.

This is my first time living in Unites States and my first working abroad experience. The main reason I participated in this program is to develop my interpersonal skills and gain working experiences with an international US-based firm. I have had the opportunity to be involved in several international on-going projects and design competition.

During those projects I’ve been able to create production drawings, attend meetings with clients, collaborate in team discussion, design 3-D models and material boards, and learn new software. My internship at BCT Design Group has been an experience that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. Not just to improve my skills but it has given me the chance to live and work in the United States, learn new cultures, and visit many historic or famous architectural site and buildings that I could only experience in books and on the internet.

After the internship program is over I will go back to my office in Indonesia and share all of the knowledge and experiences I’ve gained with all of my colleagues at PT Arkonin. I hope to be a reference and provide insight for my firms development.”
